Next week's inaugural NetHui event is shaping up to be huge, with Deputy Prime Minister Bill English to speak along with keynote speaker, Harvard University Professor of Law Lawrence Lessig, and other guests.

Registrations are at full capacity, with over 350 people scheduled to attend the event, taking place at Auckland's SkyCity Convention Centre from Wednesday June 29 to Friday July 1.

Vikram Kumar, chief executive of event organiser InternetNZ, says the attendance of English and other MPs gives New Zealand's online community a unique opportunity to engage with government representatives.

"NetHui will expose MPs to the major issues facing NewZealand in maximising the economic and social benefits from the internet,” Kumar says.

"At the same time, it will allow everyone to benefit from the perspectives of politicians.

The first two days of the event will be devoted to roundtable discussions driven by the attendees themselves, on specific topics such as cyber safety,  intellectual property on the net, and the legal implications of cloud computing.

On the third day, attendees will come together to hear panel discussions on broader topics such as Government - Openness and Internet Law.

Organisers say although registrations are full there is still a waiting list for others who wish to attend.
