Connector Systems' Terence Fleming is passionate about wireless and right now that means he's excited about Aerohive, one of the key brands distributed through the company.
And it seems like there's a lot to be excited about, with
Aerohive's first ANZ appointment, Peter Davison as country manager. Davison is based out of Sydney but plans to be in New Zealand at least one week a month.
According to Fleming and Davison, Aerohive is in a unique position, thanks to the foresight of its developers who designed their wireless architecture & software. The approach, says Fleming, was to design architecture that is "not only scaleable and well-managed, but able to cope with a huge amount of data throughput, through wireless, of the sort they predicted we'd see around 2011".
Fleming likens Aerohive to an upstart airline that is able to take the existing business model and transform it from the ground up, while existing brands are forced to play catch-up by adapting legacy technology. In this case, Cisco and other big brands have scrambled to evolve towards the model Aerohive developed, says Fleming.
Instead, Fleming explains, the "sweet spot" Aerohive occupies is for businesses that might have multiple locations, but only need a few access points at each; "[maybe] a business with offices up and down New Zealand, maybe in Australia and elsewhere overseas. Where each individual location needs two to three access points ... and the wireless experience needs to be the same everywhere."
Seeing as Aerohive is scaleable, it's also suitable to businesses that only have a few current locations with the possibility of expansion in the future. As an example of the system’s scaleability, Aerohive has recently been implemented at two schools - one a college requiring 40 access points, the other a primary school requiring only three.
Aerohive recently acquired cloud-based networking company Pareto Networks, and through it plans on bringing its wireless approach to the wired world later this year.
Another major benefit of Aerohive is the visibility it provides network managers, with it's cloud based management system, which can be hosted by Aerohive or by the system integrator themselves.
Interestingly the NZ market currently accounts for 80 percent of Aerohive’s ANZ business. "New Zealand is definitely punching above its weight, compared to Australia,” said Davison.
