In the latest email Gen-i CEO Chris Quin names the 49 cellsites that are still down – they include sites in both the North and South Islands. Telecom corporate press releases today have claimed the affected sites were in the lower South Island.
“Currently the issue is limited to a small set of the cell sites in the area from Taupo south, a number of cell sites in the lower South Island, including Dunedin, Invercargill, Timaru and Queenstown, as well as some parts of Wellington central. This is resulting in a loss of XT service to clients in those areas,” the email reads.
Quin advises that until service is restored XT customers in affected areas should use their landlines to make emergency calls.
Quin has written five emails to clients since the outage began yesterday morning. Three emails yesterday – 1pm, 3.30pm and 7.50pm – and two emails today – 9.25am and 1.45pm.
In an email yesterday sent at 3.30pm Quin told clients there were issues with the Christchurch XT Mobile RNC switch. In the email at 7.56pm last night he wrote that “Service restoration of the XT mobile network from Taupo to the bottom of the South Island is continuing well and we are seeing normal traffic flows across the network. “
At 9.24am this morning he said service had not been completely restored, with cellsites in the lower South Island still affected. In the latest email at 1.45pm today, Quin listed the affected sites (see below).
“I am continuing to work with the Telecom Exec team and our clients to resolve the issues and decide on actions going forward. Once again, I apologise and deeply regret any inconvenience or problems you are experiencing due to the interruption of the XT service” Quin wrote.
