The TiVo device will be available exclusively from Telecom from November 6th. It can be purchased from Telecom retail stores or online from www.telecom.co.nz/mytivo. The launch bundle – consisting of the 320GB TiVo media device, wireless adapter and free home networking package – can be purchased outright for $920, or for $200 with an ongoing monthly charge of $30 per month until paid off for Telecom broadband customers. The launch bundle is available until January 24th 2010.
Also announced today is the CASPA On-demand service that allows consumers to download new-release movies and television shows on a ‘pay as you use’ basis. The CASPA service is independent from the free-to-air channels delivered over the Freeview network, and it’s available exclusively to Telecom broadband customers. From launch there will be 25 new-release movies, which can be downloaded for $4.95 and will remain on your hard drive for up to two weeks.
TiVo will also carry Sony’s Bandit.fm service, which will launch in New Zealand in late November. The service will offer roughly one million songs at launch, and users can download as much content as they desire for a monthly fee of $9.95. A limited selection of content, including all music videos, will be available free of charge.
“We are absolutely thrilled to premiere this new offering to New Zealanders. With the proliferation of digital free-to-air channels, New Zealanders should have more choice than ever before in how they view, pay for and enjoy their TV,” said Robbee Minicola, CEO of Hybrid Television Services.
