The yMedia Challenge was started by Pamela Minette and Adele Barlow as a way to serve the complementary needs of tertiary students gaining portfolio experience and community groups harnessing the power of social media.
In a statement on its website, yMedia said it was "not sure that the event in its current form is making the best use of our resources to deliver back to our community".
yMedia hopes to use the hiatus to explore new ways to bridge the gap between students, community groups and the digital world.
