An Asia Pacific fund for ICT innovation has seen a record number of applications for grants for the 2010 year.

The Information Society Innovation Fund (ISIF), a small grants program established in the region in 2008, received its greatest number of applications so far, with 207 submissions from 25 different economies.

The aim of the projects was to showcase innovation, cooperation and technical knowledge, and many focused on areas such as IT infrastructure, health or multilingualism.

The eight grant recipients for 2010 included organisations from Vietnam, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Australia/Timor-Leste and Sri Lanka. Many of the projects reflect current ICT issues, with two projects focused on IPv6 research and deployment and its opportunities for developing economies.

The ISIF was established in 2008 through partnerships with the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), the Canadian International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Internet Society (ISOC) and with support from the dotAsia domain registry.
