Update: Vodafone external communications manager Matthew East gave a somewhat blase response to TechDay's request for further information: "Fear not, all will be revealed on Facebook tomorrow..." Could this be viral marketing?

Update 2: Thanks to @adam_nz we're pretty confident this is, in fact, viral marketing. Check out the video below. Stolen thumbs, stolen phones... it all ties together.
Update 3 (Wed @ 7:45am): Other outlets are taking Vodafone's word on this, e.g. Endgadget, ZDnet, Gameplanet, Ubergizmo. Maybe we're just too cynical?
Update 4: This is looking more and more like a poorly executed viral marketing campaign. Footage of the supposed 'security breach' has been posted on Vodafone NZ's Facebook page. So far, people aren't liking it.
